How stars workDefinedTerm

Double star

Two stars that appear close together — either physically bound (binary) or an optical alignment.

Many are famous telescope targets: Albireo in Cygnus (gold + blue), Mizar in Ursa Major, and Castor in Gemini. Splitting close doubles is a classic test of seeing and optics.
